Car Insurance Cost Estimator

Estimate your monthly car insurance premium based on your age, driving record, vehicle and state.

What affects your car insurance rate?

Car insurance premiums are based on dozens of factors. Our estimator accounts for the most significant ones: your age, driving record, the type of vehicle you drive, the coverage you select and where you live. Insurers also consider your credit history (in most states), annual mileage and how long you've been insured without a lapse.

How to lower your premium

  • Shop around — rates vary by hundreds of dollars between insurers.
  • Raise your deductible — a higher deductible lowers your premium significantly.
  • Bundle policies — combining home and auto usually earns a discount.
  • Ask about discounts — good-student, defensive-driving, low-mileage and multi-car discounts are common.

Frequently asked questions

Why is car insurance so much more expensive for young drivers?

Statistical claims data shows younger drivers have more accidents, so insurers price their risk accordingly. Rates typically drop meaningfully around age 25 and again in your 30s.

Is state-minimum coverage enough?

Minimum coverage is the cheapest option but leaves you exposed. If you cause an accident, your liability limit may not cover the other party's costs, and collision coverage won't pay for your own vehicle. Most experts recommend at least 100/300/100 limits plus comprehensive and collision.
